University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) is proud to announce its participation in the Ninth Edition of the GCC Sports Tournament for Universities and Higher Education Institutes. The tournament, taking place from February 4 - 10, 2023, will be held at Aspire Zone in Qatar and plays host to 22 universities and educational institutes from across the GCC region. This year marks UDST's first appearance in the tournament, and provides an exciting opportunity for the University to showcase its sporting talent on a regional platform.
UDST teams will compete at the Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Track, Padel-tennis and Swimming events. A total of 45 athletes from the University will compete across these six sports, with a mix of students from the College of Engineering Technology, College of Business Management, College of Computing and Information Technology and College of Health Sciences. Staying in the dedicated Games Village for the duration of the tournament, they will experience the truly international and cultural spirit of the event. The UDST delegation will comprise not only athletes, but also highly experienced coaches to assist them in reaching optimal performance, and administration and leadership support from the University’s Sport and Wellness Department.
"Sport plays a major role in UDST's well-being strategy and is an important pillar of the University. Our diverse range of sports programs and services has been recognized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) International Healthy Campus Program as first in the GCC region, and the University is proud to have been awarded Platinum status. As the nation’s first applied university, this is one of the many ways we give our students an immersive educational experience. Participating in the GCC Sports Tournament is a golden opportunity to offer student athletes the chance to compete in a regional sporting event, while inspiring in other students a sense of community, support and motivation " said UDST’s President, Dr. Salem Al-Naemi.
At UDST, the men’s and women's varsity teams for multiple sports compete in both intercollegiate and community leagues, and tournaments across Qatar. A testament to the culture of sport at UDST, the University FITClub program is the biggest club on campus offering one-on-one consultations, nutrition advice and exercise programming. Students can take advantage of state-of-the-art sport and wellness facilities including swimming pools, sports halls, tennis courts, turf and natural grass football pitches, an international caliber cricket ground and practice cages, indoor and outdoor padel-tennis courts, and a beach volleyball court – all of which are available to the public. Sport plays a major role in the Qatar National Vision 2030, and UDST endeavors to make opportunities for health and well-being more accessible to the wider community.
