Dr. Partha Basu
Head of the Early Detection & Prevention Branch, International Agency for Research on Cancer
Dr. Partha Basu is Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO), France. Dr. Basu did his MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology, post-doctoral fellowship in Gynecological Oncology and PhD in Clinical Oncology. He has been awarded the honorary FRCOG by the Royal College of Ob & Gyn, UK recently. Before joining IARC in 2015, he was head of the Department of Gynecological Oncology at the National Cancer Institute in India. Dr. Basu is well known for his research that has informed several guidelines and recommendations from the WHO. Dr. Basu has been supporting countries across the globe to implement cancer screening programmes with equity and quality through the project named Cancer Screening in Five Continents (CanScreen5). He is leading several implementation research projects aiming at improving cancer early detection in socio-economically disadvantaged populations in three countries in Europe and in India. He has significantly contributed to build capacity in delivering quality assured cervical and breast cancer early detection services in several low and middle income countries. Dr. Basu has 236 publications in peer-reviewed journals with more than 6000 citations.
Dr. Manal Abdul Majeed Hussain Al-Zadjali, RN. MSN. PhD
Dean of the Higher Institute of Health Specialties
Manal Abdul Majeed Hussain Al-Zadjali is the Dean of the Higher Institute of Health Specialties, Oman. She is also the Secretary General of Oman Cancer Association. Dr. Manal has a PhD in Nursing and Healthcare Innovation and a Master degree in Nursing Science - Community Health Nursing from Arizona State University.
Dr. Manal has 20 years of experience in teaching nursing. She teaches in the Postgraduate Diploma in Community Health Nursing Practice Program- a program that she has developed. She delivers training and staff development programs. Dr. Manal has been a leader and a member in several committees and taskforces e.g. the Vision 2040- Health; the Community Outreach Committee (COC); the joint Research and Studies Committee and the Branding Taskforce.
Dr. Manal is a volunteer in Oman Cancer Association for the past ten years. She volunteers in all activities related to the Association. In addition, she is a trainer in Palliative Care delivering training with different international trainers from different countries.
As a part of her scholarly activities, Dr. Manal has published several papers on areas such as chronic diseases, community health nursing, palliative care and weight management and has delivered several national and international speeches. In addition, she is also a reviewer in several International Journals. Her research interest includes palliative care, healthcare workforce education and training, chronic diseases… etc. Further, Dr. Manal received the Oman Woman of the Year-2019 award in the category of Education.
