Other roles include being QAPCO Chair for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the coordinator of Qatar’s UNESCO-UNEVOC Center. He has served as an Adjunct Professor in Canada, Iceland and Malaysia and his TEDx talk entitled: ‘Living on the coast, climate change and acceptable risk’ in response to economic and business loss from climate change impacts, focused on improving resilience. Professor Phillips has published >100 academic articles and supervised >30 successful research degree students. He has been involved in health-related research through projects on planning, assessing and predicting health and social care needs through a whole systems approach, and developing a common framework to assess health and social well-being and resilience. Through a design education lens he has worked on developing strategies to deliver effective entrepreneurial education. He has long been involved in TVET and has always emphasized its importance for the economy and employability. He works with faculty to engage as many students as possible in applied research projects, increasing numbers of proposals submitted to capacity building programs such as the Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP) and High School Research Experience Program (HSREP).
Dr. Haruna Musa Moda
Associate Professor in Occupational Safety Health and Environment
Dr Haruna Musa Moda is an Associate Professor in Occupational Safety Health and Environment at University of Doha for Science and Technology, Doha, Qatar. Haruna holds B.Tech (Hons) in Urban and Regional Planning from Federal University of Technology, Yola-Nigeria, 2001, MSc Instrumental Analytical Sciences (Environmental Analysis) from The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK 2003 and PhD in Occupational Health and Safety from Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow, UK, 2008, Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, 2011, Post Graduate Diploma in Safety and Risk Management from Strathclyde University, UK 2021 and several professional certifications in the area of safety health and environment. Haruna took up a post-doctoral research position at the Mackintosh Environmental Architecture Research Unit (MEARU), at Glasgow School of Art 2008-2010. And between January 2010-January 2023, He worked at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, United Kingdom various roles that include programme director for the Health Safety and Environment Post graduate degree programme, Cluster Lead for Occupational Safety, Food and Nutrition research group, alongside his teaching role. He has 4 PhD completions and presently working with 6 PhD students abroad in the area occupational health and Safety. Dr Moda is actively engaged in research, consultancy and knowledge transfer projects in the UK, West Africa and Middle East. Dr Moda is a chartered member of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He belongs to several professional bodies that include International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), Workplace Health Without Borders (WHWB), Higher Education Academy, Association of Industrial Hygiene, Nigeria, Environmental Health Registration Council of NIgeria.
