Program Description:

The two-year Post-Practical Nurse Bachelor of Science in Nursing (PPN B.Sc. N) program prepares diploma level LPN or Assistant Nurses to upgrade their education credential from diploma to bachelors, and to upgrade their practitioner license from LPN to RN. Students build on prior education to achieve competences expected of RNs, with a focus on understanding the scope of practice for RNs, increasing their breadth and depth of knowledge, especially in the care of patients with complex health needs, and enhancing their understanding about clinical decision making, critical thinking, research utilization, leadership, care delivery systems, and resource management. Students learn to shape the future of nursing and healthcare through options to engage in research or quality assurance projects, or entrepreneurial and technological innovation initiatives. Students may also choose to refine their competence in a focused area of clinical practice that aligns with their experience and interests. Student learning is supported in a sophisticated Nursing and Midwifery Experiential Center, equipped with state-or-the-art equipment, high fidelity simulators, and task trainers. Students also benefit from a modern virtual simulation lab and a Standardized Patient Program. Graduates from the program meet academic requirements for application to license as a RN and are prepared to practice in multiple settings including public and private primary, secondary, and tertiary hospitals, ambulatory health care centers, community clinics, physician offices, schools, home care, government and public policy agencies, and research institutes. . In addition, graduates are prepared for the possibility of future education in a Master of Science in Nursing.

Program Duration:

Two years

Admission Requirements:

  1. Two-year Practical Nursing Diploma or equivalent approved by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education from an accredited higher education institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  2.  Two-year Diploma in Practical Nursing from UDST with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; OR

1. The required score on the University English Placement Test or a passing score from another approved internationally recognized English language test, as validated by the Admissions & Registration Directorate; OR

2. A valid (within two years) IELTS Academic Test Report Form with an overall band of 5.0 with no individual band score (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) below 5.0; OR

3.Successful completion of Foundation Year in Health Sciences.

1. A minimum of 60% on the University Math Placement Test; OR

2. A valid SAT Report Form with minimum score of 480; OR

3. Successful completion of Foundation Year in Health Sciences.

  1. Documented proof of current licensure in Qatar as an Assistant Nurse or Practical Nurse and in good standing. Note that applicants not licensed and employed as an LPN or Assistant Nurse may be required to complete up to five UDST (bridging) courses to update knowledge and practice skills related to health assessment and nursing therapeutics.
